UPC Volt to set up 100 MW AI-ready data centre with Rs 5,000 cr investment

Hyderabad: In line with the Telangana Rising 2047 vision to position the state as India’s leading AI data centre hub, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy-led ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation secured yet another data centre investment, during a meeting with the leadership of UPC Volt, a joint venture between Netherlands-based partners UPC Renewables Group and VOLT Data Centers, during WEF 2026. The JV focuses on setting up high-performance, energy-efficient AI datacenters.
The JV had come forward to establish a 100 MW AI-ready data centre in Bharat Future City, supported by a matching 100 MW RTC renewable energy project facility with an intent to ensure digital infrastructure is powered by carbon free energy.
The proposed investment of Rs5,000 crore, over five years, is expected to create more than 3,000 direct & indirect jobs during construction and over 800 direct and indirect jobs during operation.
The facility will be integrated with renewable energy sourcing under Telangana’s Green Open Access framework, enabling a sustainable, power-first operating model.
The delegation engaged in a positive dialogue during a meeting with Han de Groot, CEO, Volt, Steven Zwaan, co-founder of UPC Renewables APAC, Alok Nigam, CEO, UPC Renewables India, and Vikas Sharma, Assistant Vice President, of UPC Renewables India.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed delight over Minister for IT & Industries D Sridhar Babu securing the investment. He said the state's goal of reaching $3 trillion by 2047 will be pursued by building high-calibre digital infrastructure, while also maintaining the roadmap for achieving net zero development.
The Minister said the state is aggressively pushing to become a global AI data centre hub through incentives for components like high-density GPUs, large-scale training compute and liquid cooling. "We are aiming at net zero development. Under the 2047 vision, Telangana is creating three distinct economic zones dedicated to service sector, manufacturing and agriculture," he said.
Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy was also part of the delegation that participated in the meeting.
Rs623 cr for Schneider Electric Hyd facility expansion
Meanwhile, the delegation met Deepak Sharma, CEO, Schneider Electric India. Schneider Electric India will invest Rs623 crore to expand their existing Gagillapur and Shamshabad facilities in Telangana, enhancing capacity for electrical safety products such as Air Circuit Breakers (ACB), Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB), contactors, and push buttons.
The meeting also focused on energy transition and storage projects, with collaboration on grid modernisation, energy efficiency, and digital power management for industrial parks and urban infrastructure.
The Chief Minister expressed delight that Minister for IT & Industries D Sridhar Babu secured the investment for the state.
